Chinese censors wield cutlass on Captain Sparrow's adversary

The character portrayed by a Chinese actor has so upset that country's authorities that the censors have cut his scenes by about half.

The problem is that while Africa's cinemagoers will be able to follow the movie's plot – their version is uncut – Chinese cinemagoers dispute the official line that the movie is unaffected. Fans claim that the storyline is now somewhat puzzling.

Only about 10 minutes of the original film's 20 minutes of scenes involving Chinese movie star Chow Yun-Fat's role in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End remain in the Chinese version. Even a reference to Singapore has been cut – and the island nation is not even part of China, though it does have a large Chinese population.
