CAFF presents 'Visions to be Heard: Empowering Young Africans through Film'

A number of organisations will be joining the event on Tuesday, 4 November at Winstanley Lecture Theatre, Trinity College from 7-9pm, including:

• Dominique Chadwick (Social Films, Ghana-UK) showing 'Radio Tongu' and 'Survivor'
  
• Hugh James (The Accountability Film School, Liberia) showing 'Daily Talk' and 'Say It' (by Dorcas Pewee)
  
• Laurinda Luffman (Our Africa) showing 'The Market Place', 'Meskel Festival' and 'Swimming'
  
• Joshua McNamara (Slum Film Festival) showing the Slum Film Festival Trailer
  
• Tatiana Thieme (Ghetto Films) showing 'Story Yetu'

CAFF and events like this are said to be important because mainstream media portrayals of Africa have tended to forge a limited perception of this diverse continent. This perception is largely the result of narratives emerging through the 'Western eye', because of the inequity of opportunities of production and distribution of films made in Africa by Africans.

This selection of short films, made in a participatory manner, strives to challenge these narratives, and give voice to those who have a right to be heard. Each of the projects featured, though in different locations, shares a commitment to empowering young Africans through film.
