    UBA appoints key senior level management across Africa

    Following its recent restructuring and the spin-off of non-commercial banking operations in line with regulatory guidelines, United Bank for Africa (UBA), a financial services institutions in Africa, has announced some key senior level appointments to strengthen some areas of its operations.

    The Board of Directors of the Bank has approved the appointment of Emeke Iweriebor as executive director in charge of corporate banking as well as the bank's operations in Lagos and entire Western Region of Nigeria covering nine states, including Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Kwara, Edo and Delta states.

    This is in recognition of the hard work, commitment and diligence Iweriebor demonstrated in his service to the bank over the years. Iweriebor, whose appointment is subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was before now deputy CEO, UBA Africa and brings with him about two decades of industry experience covering several areas of banking as he joins the strong and cohesive Board of UBA Plc.

    Iweriebor has also at different times been the pioneer MD/CEO, UBA Cameroon and later the CEO, UBA Central, East and Southern Africa. He holds a Bachelor and Master Degrees in Political Science (International Relations); an MBA from the University of Lagos and is also an alumnus of the Wharton Business School's Executive Development Program.

    Other appointments

    Apart from Emeke, UBA Plc also announced other appointments including Puri Ibrahim as head, North Central Bank; Emmanuel Onokpasa as group treasurer and Emem Etuk as deputy directorate head of Abuja & East Bank. Etuk will double-hat as regional bank head: Cross River and Akwa Ibom.

    For the bank's African operations, Emmanuel Nnorom, the group's erstwhile executive director in charge of risk management, has been appointed CEO, UBA Africa. Nnorom was appointed executive director in 2008 and has held several senior level appointments since joining UBA Plc. Some of these include being the group chief operating officer with responsibility for Information Technology, Operations, Corporate Services, Marketing and Corporate communications, Customer Service, Facility & Real Estate Management, Human Resources and Regulatory Affairs.

    In addition, a number of other senior level appointments were made in UBA Africa including five new country subsidiary CEOs, one country subsidiary deputy managing director and three country subsidiary executive directors.

    These new appointees include Mamadou Sanon as MD/CEO of UBA Gabon; Amie Sow as MD/CEO of UBA Senegal; Marcel Bitang as MD/CEO of UBA Congo DRC; Martin Che as MD/CEO of UBA Congo Brazzaville; Stanley Ugwueze as MD/CEO of UBA Zambia; Ms. Abiola Bauwah as deputy managing director of UBA Ghana; Benedict Nklama as executive director designate of UBA Kenya; Wilbrod Owor as executive director of UBA Uganda and Chinedu Obeta as executive director of UBA Sierra Leone.

    UBA Plc's group managing director and CEO, Phillips Oduoza said, "these appointments, which demonstrate the strength and quality of our succession policy, will enable the bank to continuously leverage on its qualified, dependable and efficient human resources to drive the achievement our strategic intent of being the first choice financial institution in Africa"
