Standard Bank wins 2009 ‘Deals of the Year'

Standard Bank wins 2009 ‘Deals of the Year'

    The winning deals:

    • Botswana Power Station-Morupule B: Africa Power Deal of the Year
    • Paladin Energy Kayelekera Uranium Mine: Africa Mining Deal of the Year
    • Lafarge WAPCO-Lakatabu Expansion: Africa Industrial Deal of the Year
    • MTN Uganda: Africa Telecoms Deal of the Year
    • Zain: Middle East Telecoms Deal of the Year

Commenting, Jonathan Wood, head of project finance, Standard Bank, said: “We are delighted to have won awards for these deals from such a well-regarded industry publication. They serve as recognition of Standard Bank's expertise in arranging complex financings across sectors and regions.”

Sean Keating, managing editor at Project Finance Magazine, said: ”Each of these deals is either a first in terms of project financing within that country and sector, or an evolution in the financial engineering available to project sponsors in the region. They represent new funding options for project developers at a time when huge demand for infrastructure development, and the associated economic stimulus, is not being matched by many international banks.”

Project Finance Magazine, part of the Euromoney stable of magazines, evaluates new financial instruments and provides detailed analysis of deal round-ups.
