Africa attracts more private-equity funds
Private-equity firms are becoming increasingly active in the emerging markets of Africa, as the slowdown in the developed markets drives investors to seek opportunities in its burgeoning resource-rich, consumer-driven economies.
Investment by private-equity firms in Africa has skyrocketed from just four buyouts valued at a combined $74m in 2003 to last year's total of 24 deals totaling $6,4 billion, data provider Dealogic says. So far this year, there have been 18 deals valued at $1,9bn in total.
