Orange awarded at Global Mobile Awards 2011

Orange was announced the winner of the 2011 Best Mobile Technology for Emerging Markets Award during the Global Mobile Awards held last week as part of the GSMA Mobile World Congress.

The award was for the Orange solar base station programme which saves more than 10 million litres of fuel and 29,000 tonnes of CO2 and provides 6 GWh of solar energy across the AMEA radio network every year.

"The solar base station programme has many benefits - to our customers in rural areas; our infrastructure costs; and to the environment. This award is tremendous recognition for the success of this programme that will continue to roll out across AMEA," said Marc Rennard, executive VP, Africa, Middle East and Asia, Orange.
