ETKL has now confirmed the activation of 500 base transmitting stations (BTS). The company's chief executive officer Srinivasa Iyengar said the firm had rolled out more than 220 BTS sites as of last month (August).
Following the rollout, ETKL is confident that Yu's target of two million subscribers by March 2010 will be achieved. With Yu's national network coverage its subscribers will now be able to make and receive mobile calls and data services any where in Kenya.
As part of its corporate development projects, Essar Group last month announced the sealing of a joint partnership to enter into exclusive discussions regarding an investment by Essar Group into the telecommunications portfolio of Dhabi Group's African assets. In Africa, the Dhabi Group operates under the Warid Telecom brand and has running operations in Uganda and Congo-Brazaville with launch plans underway for Ivory Coast. The transaction will involve an equity infusion into these businesses as growth capital.
