France Telecom plans exit from African markets
France Telecom (also known as Orange) is planning to exit several African markets where its "operations are weak", reports Business Daily Africa.
Orange Africa operations include Kenya, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Niger, Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Guinea and Senegal.
The multinational singled out its operations in Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Guinea and Senegal as those registering positive growth in its financials for the year ending 31 December 2013, where it posted a 4.5% revenue decline to 40.981 billion euros.
Daily Nation also reports that the announcement has resulted in an exciting time in the Kenyan telecoms market, especially so shortly after the announcement of the buy-out of yuMobile.
