SolarAfrica's David McDonald recognised among SolarQuarter's 40 under 40 for 2023
Over the last 13 years, McDonald has grown SolarAfrica from a headcount of three to 80+ people and led a portfolio of over 135 projects across sub-Saharan Africa, equating to more than 60MW in total and resulting in 262,000+ tonnes of carbon reduction.
Some of SolarAfrica’s achievements include installing the first solar power purhcase agreement (PPA) in Kenya in 2013; delivering East Africa's largest industrial solar system at Krystalline Salt Limited in 2017; and funding the largest battery system in Africa - the first Tesla Power Pack installed in Africa at Singita Luxury Lodge & Reserve in 2018.
“A company’s success is only as strong as the people behind it, which is why I pride myself in working shoulder-to-shoulder with my team to reach new heights. Being recognised as one of SolarQuarter’s 40 under 40 in such an esteemed peer group is a great honour, and I couldn’t have done it without my amazing team. I look forward to what the SolarAfrica team will achieve as we continue on our mission to make renewable energy accessible to more businesses across South Africa,” said McDonald.
