Animal Planet celebrates Africa Month this May

Premiering on Tuesday, 1 May at 9pm, Safari Vet School follows 32 young vet students from the UK who have found themselves at one of the toughest vet schools in Africa (Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape, South Africa). Under the guidance of Dr Will Fowlds, the students tackle their new patients including lions, rhinos, giraffe and elephants. Presenter Steve Leonard, mentors the students through the tears and fears of being a wildlife vet.

Meanwhile, some of Africa's wild animals and pets refuse to be contained. In Great Animal Escapes, which premieres on Monday 7 May at 9pm, animals are finding more ingenious and extraordinary ways to break out of captivity. Viewers can catch footage of elephants on a midnight stroll in suburbia, bulls hitting the high street and dogs and cats out smarting their owners. Animal experts Dave Salmoni and Nigel Marven shed some light on what our animal Houdinis are thinking.

In a new series of Wildwives of Savannah Lane premiering on 23 May at 9pm, Animal Planet sees the return of the females of the animal kingdom. In the opening episode of this three-part series, you can catch up with Victoria and her four baby cheetahs, Laura and her two lion cubs and hippopotamus Cathy and her son.
