2010 Zain Africa Challenge starts TV beaming

The 2010 Zain Africa Challenge, the continent-wide university television quiz show, went on air on yesterday, Sunday, 28 February 2010. The 2010 showcase has attracted universities from Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Uganda and Zambia.

A statement from the company says it expects an increased viewership and audience participation due to the expansion of broadcast channels to DSTV.

“In the 2010 challenge, Zain has partnered digital satellite television (DSTV) provider MNET, who will beam the matches on Africa Magic, Africa Magic Plus and Magic World channels in addition to in-country (resident) television channels,” said the statement.

Zain Malawi managing director Fayaz King said they are proud to be bringing to the silver screens another season of the Zain Africa Challenge, which has become a source of pride and enlightenment for both students and their families.

In order to run away from a monotonous presentation the mobile company has also opened it up to customers of other telecommunication networks allowing them to send SMS's to its Home Viewer games.

“The games are carried in each of the university matches and give viewers the opportunity to win fabulous prizes upon voting for the correct answers to multiple choice questions,” the statement said.

In last year's challenge, Nigeria's University of Ibadan broke the dominance previously enjoyed by Kenya's Egerton University, which won the challenge consecutively in the first two years of its introduction.

Mzuzu University, University of Malawi and Malawi Adventist University (MAU) will represent Malawi.
