    Discovery World launches in East, West Africa

    Discovery Networks Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) has launched factual entertainment and documentary channel Discovery World, in five African countries on the Rwandan-based Star Africa Media platform, Star Software. Discovery World debuted on 4 January 2010 in Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria and Kenya.

    Caleb Weinstein, SVP and general manager of Emerging Markets for Discovery Networks EMEA, says the African launch of Discovery World reaffirms Discovery's solid commitment to the continent and its loyal audience.

    "I am very proud to announce the launch Discovery World in Africa. Discovery World is designed specifically for viewers with a keen interest in the world they live in, and a thirst to know more about the events that continue to shape it," explains Weinstein. "Africa is an important territory for Discovery, and a major focus for us is to consistently deliver new brands that meet the viewing needs of our ever increasing African audience. This means introducing new channels from Discovery's portfolio of distinguished global channels."

    Discovery World specialises in deep-seated investigations of the ancient world, natural history, people and places, modern history and key events, exploration, the history of technology, and war and weaponry.

    Its shows include Out of Egypt and Prehistoric Disaster; Raging Planet; Discovery Atlas Revealed and Final Days of an Icon; Zero Hour and When Weather Changed History; Treasure Quest; We Built This City; and Weaponology and Weapon Masters.
