    In Africa supports Team Africa at Homeless World Cup

    The In Africa Foundation has pledged support for the twelve African teams that participated in the Melbourne 2008 Homeless World Cup in Federation Square, Melbourne. The partnership began with a US$250,000 contribution towards the African Teams travel fund that ensured their participation in the unique international football tournament.

    There is also a commitment to fund grass roots micro enterprise initiatives supporting the football programmes operating in Africa to enable their long-term sustainability to contribute to lasting change for the players and their communities.

    The African nations benefiting are: Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

    Catherine Stuart, founder and president of In Africa Foundation says, "We are delighted to be supporting the Homeless World Cup Foundation as part of our African Youth Kick Start Project. Our purpose is to create long-term opportunities for empowerment of individuals and communities through the development of sustainable micro enterprise. We aim to work closely with these talented young people on a long term basis to provide them with skills training and education to affect real change in their lives."

    The Homeless World Cup is an annual international tournament, which provides the opportunity for people who are homeless to change their own lives. The 6th Homeless World Cup is took place in the heart of the City of Melbourne, uniting 56 nations for the biggest tournament ever, which includes the first Women's Cup.

    77% of players involved experience a significant life change; no-longer using drugs and alcohol, moving into homes, jobs, education, training, repairing relationships and becoming coaches or players with semi-pro teams. 94% claim to have a renewed motivation for life.
