Press Freedom Index 2010 released
Reporters without Borders has released its Press Freedom Index for 2010. The Horn of Africa is still the region on the continent with the least press freedom and Eritrea is at the bottom of the world ranking for the fourth consecutive year, with Sudan and Rwanda not far ahead. South Africa is slipping, too.
African countries with positions in the top 50 have been shuffled. Nambia leads the continent in terms of press freedom in 21st place out of 178 countries, while South Africa has fallen five positions to 38th - reasons cited are the "because of attacks on journalists during the Football World Cup but above all because of the behaviour of senior members of the ruling African National Congress towards the press."
