Celebrating International Woman's Day with mentor programmes
The event, themed 'Women make it happen for our future tomorrow' in line with the 2015 International Women's Day theme of 'Making It Happen', gave young girls and teens an opportunity to interact with journalists and staff of the newspaper. It offered them mentorship opportunities and advice on how to make it in life as a woman and especially as a female journalist.
The young girls, who ranged from ages 14 to 19, were excited by the opportunity and took turns asking questions about the mentorship and career opportunities available in the media. According to Chichi Umeseaka, the founder of 9ineteen, "The purpose of the event is to give the teenagers the opportunity to interact and learn first hand the role of the media in the society and the career opportunities available. We are delighted to have partnered with Jovago and other Africa Internet Group ventures in this regard."
This Women's Day mentorship visit is one of Jovago.com's many efforts to influence positively the community through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. "Women are the bedrock of our society. This International Women's Day, we wanted to do something special to help groom the young girls of our society and do our part in ensuring they grow into inspiring women, 'Making It Happen'," said Chinelo Ngene, Head of Marketing & Public Relations at Jovago.com.
