Off to a flying start
Editor Sonya Schoeman says the feedback on the first edition has been overwhelmingly positive: "So far, the response to horizons has been very enthusiastic. We've been excited to get a response from the public so soon. We want the magazine to be an exciting read with gorgeous, evocative images, but it should also carry useful travel information. So far, the response has been that we're getting the mix right."
With 60% of British Airways' customers falling within the LSM 9 and 10 categories and 55% being business travellers, horizons is primarily read by an affluent market.
Published by Touchline Media, horizons aims to cater for a variety of interests by providing entertainment, travel and leisure possibilities that have an adventure or personal growth slant. The publication features local, African and international destinations through large format, vivid photography and succinct, eloquent writing. Besides helping readers to dream of holiday destinations, the magazine also offers celebrity profiles, restaurant reviews and a regular calendar of events around which readers can plan possible networking opportunities.
While the last issue featured 20 romantic destinations around the world, such as Morocco, Belgium and Barrydale, June's issue includes stories about great escapes into nature, an island in Kenya, grand old homes in Ireland and the revival of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. There are also interviews with interesting personalities, such as Hollywood It-boy Jake Gyllenhaal, Isidingo star Kim Engelbrecht and local adventurer Kingsley Holgate.
