MTN partners with Africa the Good News
MTN, an African global sponsor of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, will sponsor Africa - The Good News, a legacy project of the event. The partnership was announced at Highway Africa by Nozipho January-Bardill, MTN Group executive: corporate affairs at the 13th edition of the conference for African journalists in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
“The MTN Group's exceptional growth since its founding in South Africa in 1994 bears testimony to the productive climate for investment in the African continent. At MTN, we believe emerging markets present enormous growth opportunities for those with the appetite, dedication and capacity to harness their full potential for the benefit of all their stakeholders,” said January-Bardill.
World's focus
Stuart Pennington, co-editor and publisher of Africa - The Good News, says as SA gears up to stage the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the world's focus - that of 208 football-playing nations and an estimated 26 billion cumulative television viewers - will be on SA and Africa.
“This event gives the continent a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to show the world what it is really about. This website is intended to offer a fresh perspective on Africa, to highlight stories of progress and positive developments in the continent,” says Pennington.
He concludes: “It is about hope and the new winds of change that are gusting over her nations and the growing opportunity in arguably the most ethnically diverse, biologically rich, scenically beautiful continent in the world.”
