SA work permit for Zimbabweans
The South African Home Affairs Ministry has announced a new work permit which will enable Zimbabweans to stay and work legally in the country for six months. About three million Zimbabweans are believed to have crossed the border to escape the economic collapse and human rights abuses at home.
Formerly they had to apply for political asylum, and the South African police frequently deported Zimbabweans without proper documents. But with the new permit they will have access to healthcare and education. The decision is to be reviewed in six months.
