    New communication network for Africa

PRETORIA: More than 100 senior communicators from across Africa gathered at the Nelson Mandela Foundation on Friday, 26 Febraury 2010, for the launch of a communicators network that aims to encourage cross-border exchange.

This idea for the African Association of Communication Directors (AACD) was initiated by a group of African communications professionals, who have seen similar associations deliver tangible value and prosper on other continents.

Coming together at a site that is dedicated to the making of a just society by promoting dialogue and the values and vision of a great African leader, African communicators are aiming to launch a new network dedicated to cross border exchange, transparency, qualification and knowledge sharing in the communications profession.

The AACD also held its foundation meeting on Friday to discuss their goals, plans and constitution for the new association, as well as elect a board to the newly founded organisation.

The new association will offer a platform for networking and exchange among its members, and advance the visibility and reputation of the profession.

It aims to foster diversity, overcome cultural barriers and to formulate communicative norms and expectations, resulting in the declaration of a pan-African communication culture as a strong voice in a globalised world.
