MTPA appoints Baird's Renaissance as rep
Baird's' proposal included a multi-faceted public relations and advertising campaign with a range of activities which aim to impact the South African market.
“Baird's is excited to be working with one of the greatest destinations in the world, so that more South Africans can discover the island that is 'One Destination, Many a Voyage'," says CEO Bert Griesel. “We were identified from afar by the MTPA and invited to tender. The invitation to tender was also thanks to a previous project undertaken for a Mauritian government department, which provided a strong endorsement for Baird's."
The Mauritian economy has undergone transformation since independence as the country moved from a monocrop economy, depending mainly on sugar, to more diversified activities including the textile and apparel industry, tourism and financial services. Although the tourism sector has been hit with a drop of 6.5% in arrival figures compared to 2008, the head of the Central Bank in Mauritius announced that it expects the Mauritius economy to grow by more than 4% in 2010 after a forecast of 2.7% in 2009.
