Ghana hosts Connecting Rural Communities Africa 2010 Forum
The forum aims to connect rural Africa on a cost-effective, sustainable and profitable basis through Public-Private Peoples Partnerships. The conference is also hosted by the Ghanaian Ministry of Communications, National Communications Authority and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications
Role of the CTO
The Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) is an international development partnership between the Commonwealth and non-Commonwealth governments, ICT regulators, ICT operators and manufacturing businesses, and civil society organisations.
The CTO supports the international community's objective to help bridge the digital divide and achieve social and economic development, by delivering to developing countries unique knowledge-sharing programmes in the use of ICT.
With its headquarters in London and members based in Europe, the Caribbean, Americas, Africa and Asia-Pacific regions, the CTO has been at the centre of continuous and extensive international communications development funding, co-operation and assistance programmes.
The CTO's mission is to promote the use of ICTs to reduce global poverty and help its member countries to meet their Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Helping Africa achieve MDGs
Organised in conjunction with the ICT Ministry of Mozambique, the event will endeavour to bring together Public Private Peoples Partnerships to help achieve Africa's developmental goals through the application of ICTs to governance (e-governance/e-government), electoral processes (e-democracy), food and nutrition (e-agriculture), health delivery (e-health/telemedicine), learning and capacity development (e-education) and trade (e-commerce), among others.
In keeping with its past events, this event aims to provide an integral forum for international collaboration of a diverse group of highly knowledgeable ICT speakers and stakeholders from around the world to share their knowledge and experience in ICT development and promotion. These include ICT ministers, regulators and operators.
