SA to host AU ICT meeting
The theme of the 2010 summit, “Information and Communications Technologies in Africa: Challenges and Prospects for Development”, is dedicated to information and communications technologies (ICTs). The AU CIT session serves as a consolidating forum for the Ministers of Communications to present to the Heads of State and Government a common view on ICT development in Africa.
The meeting seeks consensus on harmonising policy, legal and regulatory frameworks at regional and continental level to create an enabling environment to attract investment and foster sustainable development of competitive ICT markets in the continent. The ICT ministers also aim to recommit to the establishment of ICT infrastructure to achieve the objectives of the World Summit on Information Society and its action lines and the Connect Africa Goals.
The conference will be held at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park. It will be preceded by the senior officials meeting between 2 - 4 November 2009. All 53 African Union member states are expected to be represented at the ministerial meeting.
