New president for Alcatel-Lucent Middle East, Africa

PARIS: Alcatel-Lucent announced late last week that Amr El Leithy has been appointed MEA president as of 1 January 2010. Succeeding Vincenzo Nesci, Leithy will be joining the management team. Nesci will be appointed as honorary president of MEA, based in Cairo, in order to assist Leithy in the transition.

Leithy has extensive experience at IBM in the Middle-East, Africa and Europe. During his career with IBM, he has held leading sales and management responsibilities, in his role as the IBM sales, marketing, and channels executive for MEA and also as the regional general manager for IBM North and West Africa. Leithy also has international experience outside the Middle East, having held long assignments in IBM headquarters in Paris, where he held leading positions in the IBM emerging market region and also for IBM South and West Europe.

“I am very pleased to welcome Amr in the EMEA leadership team and strongly believe he will contribute to Alcatel-Lucent's success and transformation,” said Adolfo Hernandez, president of Alcatel-Lucent EMEA. “I would also like to thank Vincenzo for his fruitful contribution and many successes in the development of Alcatel-Lucent in MEA.”
