    Tunisia leads Africa in technology rankings

    Tunisia is Africa's most networked economy, a new IT report has revealed.

    The Global Information Technology Report 2007-2008 released on April 9, positioned Tunisia above 25 other African nations considered to be among the most technology networked countries, in the world.

    Tunisia was ranked number 35th out of 127 global countries, with 4.33 points while Denmark was ranked the number one country in the world, with 5.78 scores. It beat European countries including Czech Republic and Hungry as well as Asian nations – Thailand and India – which earned between 4.33 and 4.0 points.

    Following Tunisia was South Africa (51), Mauritius (54), Egypt (63), and Morocco (74) with between 4.01 and 3.67 points.

    Africans nations at the bottom of the rankings include Lesotho (123), Ethiopia (124), Zimbabwe (125), Burundi (126) and Chad (127).

    Kenya (92) led the East African set while Tanzania took the 100th spot and Uganda at 109.

    “Under the theme Fostering Innovation through Networked Readiness, this year's report places a particular focus on the role of networked readiness in spurring innovation,” said a communiqué issued to the press by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

    Published for the seventh consecutive year by the World Economic Forum in cooperation with INSEAD, with record coverage of 127 economies worldwide, the report has become the world's most comprehensive and authoritative international assessment of the impact of ICT on the development process and the competitiveness of nations. Cisco System sponsored the report this year.

    Sweden and Switzerland, United States, Singapore, Finland, Netherlands, Iceland, Korea and Norway, emerged in the top 10.
