    Google's chairman visits Nairobi to discuss ICT growth, innovation

    Chairman of Google, Eric Schmidt was in Nigeria and Kenya last week to make a courtesy call to Lagos State Governor, Governor Babatunde Fashola accompanied by Google Ideas Director, Jared Cohen and country manager for Google Nigeria, Juliet Ehimuan Chiazor amongst others to discuss the use of information and communications technology to drive growth in various sectors of the Nigerian economy.

    Governor Fashola was accompanied by member's of his cabinet including The Lagos State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr Obafemi Hamzat as well as The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Adebiyi Mabadeje.

    Google's Chairman also paid a visit to the mainframe studio of Nigerian filmmaker, Tunde Kelani where they both discussed the challenges facing Nigeria's creative industries.

    Schmidt was also in Nairobi, Kenya where he visited the well known Kenyan innovation hub, the iHub and met with Kenyan technology entrepreneurs.

    He also visited Strathmore University where amongst others, he talked about the importance of education to enable young people solve the world's most challenging problems.
