Journos go 'Press Dead' after attacks

Under the leadership of the Malian Press Center, organisations and associations of Malian journalists for the private and public sector have decided to protest against aggression, intimations, kidnappings and other bullying experienced by Malian journalists for nearly three months.

Through a peaceful march from the headquarters of the newspaper, The Independent, to the prime minister's office (about 5 kms away), they said NO to what suffers Saouti Haidara, director of The Independent newspaper and all other colleagues assaulted and/or intimidated.

At the prime minister's office where they were received by the minister chief of staff to prime minister, Oumar Kanoute, a statement was read and delivered to the attention of the head of government. The document condemns all violations of freedom found in Mali for a while.

Walkers of Tuesday, 17 July, in Bamako were about a thousand. In addition to this march, it is important to note that the day 'Press Dead' was also very well organised and followed by all editors: No private radio (except one), no private newspaper in kiosks. The only private TV Africable cut its national feed ...

    Never again ....
