    Judging panel announced for Caine Prize 2012

    Described as Africa's leading literary award, the Caine Prize 2012 has announced its judging panel. The judging panel will be chaired by author and Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, Bernardine Evaristo.

    The rest of the panel includes: cultural journalist, Maya Jaggi; Zimbabwean poet, songwriter and writer, Chirikure Chirikure; associate professor at Georgetown University, Samantha Pinto and CNN television correspondent, Nima Elbagir.

    With 122 qualifying stories from 14 African countries having been submitted this year, the judges will meet early in May to decide on the shortlisted finalists, after which the announcement will be made.The winning story will be announced at a dinner at the Bodleian Library in Oxford, United Kingdom in July 2012.

    Last year, the prize was awarded to Zimbabwean writer NoViolet Bulawayo.
