Conference to tackle issues facing women in media

The Africa Women in Media Conference, presented by Amabhubesi, will takes place from 28 - 29 September 2011 at the Sandton Sun Hotel, Johannesburg South Africa, provides a platform for stakeholders in the media industry to grasp fundamental challenges facing women in media and seeks ways to tackle these solutions by positioning women as strategic leaders in the industry.

According to a recent report by the International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF), it was revealed that women represent only 33.3% of full-time journalism work force in 522 companies surveyed globally. It also shows that in North Africa and the Middle East women are greatly marginalised in the media sector, with only slight differences in some countries. In Sub-Saharan Africa women account for between, 15% to 27% of media jobs and in some countries men outnumber women by as much as 2:1.

The conference promises informative and practical insights to enable you:

    • Expand your mind by listening to high level plenary sessions and presentations on key issues relating to gender equity in the media today
    • Reconnect with media stake holders and gain a better understanding of the challenges that exist for women in media and how to combat these in the work place
    • Engage and network with media professionals from all over Africa and immerse yourself in insightful conversation breaks that offer both delegates and speakers the opportunity to review, develop and proffer ideas on how to better position women as strategic leaders in the media industry
    • Prepare your move by getting insights on how to get up to speed on career growth opportunities in media by bye-passing corporate huddles and focusing on professionalism
    • Get a low down on how to shatter the proverbial 'glass ceiling' and excel in your field of expertise
