Wits Power Reporting conference in November
Over the course of the three days, the theme will revolve around narrative journalism - telling your story, reporting on the rich and poor and climate change, looking ahead to the 2011 round of talks which will take place in South Africa.
Numerous courses
The Wits Journalism course on computer-assisted reporting will cover finding data, downloading data, using Excel and Access, web-scraping, advanced internet research, using statistical software, social network analysis and Google maps. These are all computer-based hands-on courses.
Other courses that will be presented during the conference include business and finance, which includes finding documents and reading company accounts; using freedom of information legislation; how to organise investigation; working across borders, going undercover and photo-journalism. This year's event also includes several sessions on radio journalism. Added to this is a showcasing of South African and African investigative journalism.
