    Countdown to 13th Highway Africa begins

    Highway Africa, the largest annual gathering of African journalists interested in journalism and new media, will take place 6 - 8 September 2009 at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa. The theme for this year's event is 'Reporting Africa - 2010, Development and Democracy'.

    The conference starts on Sunday, 6 September with the Digital Citizen Indaba (DCI). This is a blogging event that focuses on how civil society and journalists can use new media tools to participate meaningfully in the democratisation of their societies. Prospective speakers for this event should contact Professor Jane Duncan at . On Monday, 7 and Tuesday, 8 September plenary sessions, keynote addresses, debates, training workshops and book launches will take place as well as a social networking party.

    Registration for the event will open from 20 July to 20 August 2009. The fee is US$500 or ZAR4,000 and all registration fees must be paid in advance this year. Registration forms are available from Sibusiso Mtshali on and Luthando Kiti on .

    Highway Africa is a partnership between Rhodes University (School of Journalism and Media Studies) and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), with the support of several partners, development agencies and sponsors.
