APO, Africa-Asia Business Forum 2009 media partner

The African Press Organisation (APO) announced on Wednesday, 20 May 2009 that it has been selected as one of the media partners of the 5th Africa-Asia Business Forum (AABF V) taking place from 15 - 17 June 2009, in Kampala, Uganda.

The APO plans to provide webcast, press videoconference and press release distribution services to AABF V, which will be held under the theme "Forging Business Linkages for Sustainable Tourism Development in Africa."

AABF V is organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) as a follow-up to the fourth Tokyo International Conference in African Development held in May 2008 in Yokohama, Japan.

The Africa-Asia Business Forum (AABF), a series of face-to-face negotiations between selected African and Asian firms, aims at identifying business partners to enter into various types of deals such as joint ventures, franchising, licensing, technology transfer etc. Its objective is to attract investment into Africa and to increase trade between Africa and Asia.

“The efficiency of our webcasts and press videoconference rests on our capacity to announce these events to the journalists through our service of distribution of press releases. As a global leader of distribution of press releases related to Africa, we thus guarantee the frequentation of the webcasts by professional journalists,” said Nicolas Pompigne-Mognard, secretary general of the African Press Organisation.

In February 2009, Pompigne-Mognard declared that his non-governmental organisation was anticipating a significant increase in demands for webcast and international press videoconference because of the global crisis which limits journalists in their ability to find time and resources to travel.
