FIFA criticised over World Cup resettlements

Independent investigator Raquel Rolnik, appointed by the UN Human Rights Council, has criticised football's world governing body, FIFA, for failing to protect people's housing rights in cities that host the World Cup.
FIFA criticised over World Cup resettlements

Rolnik claims FIFA ignored repeated demands for it to make housing rights a key part of the bidding process for hosting the World Cup. She told a press conference in Geneva on Monday, 8 March 2010, that more than 20,000 people have complained of being forced to move from a makeshift settlement near Cape Town to impoverished areas at the edge of the city ahead of the 2010 football World Cup in South Africa.

Cape Town officials denied the claims. FIFA has not commented on the allegations.
