SA National Blood Services' 2003 Annual Report gets shot in the arm from FCB Design
Providing its expertise on a pro bono basis, full-spectrum design house FCB Design recently created the look for the 2003 annual report of the South African National Blood Services (SANBS).
The project was undertaken in conjunction with sibling agency, FCB Jonssons, which focuses on financial advertising and investor communication. FCB Design drew its inspiration from the heart of SANBS's operations – blood transfusion and allied medical services – and incorporated visual elements which are ever present in the SANBS environment. Even the report's outward appearance acquired extra resonance from this back-to-basics approach: the same label used to identify bags for collecting and storing blood is featured on the outside front cover. Graphics used in the body of the document were shot in SANBS laboratories, and deliberately kept minimal to enhance their impact.
